Partnered Parishes in the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne

Baptism
Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit,
and the door which gives access to the other sacraments.
Baptism of Infants
Since its earliest days, the Catholic Church has baptised infants (children younger than seven) into the life of Christ. Below you will find information about the various steps that lead towards the Baptism of your child.

Baptisms are celebrated at St Patrick's Mentone after the
11.00 am Mass on the second and fourth Sundays of each month.
Baptisms at Stella Maris Beaumaris are on the third Sunday of the month at 12.00 noon.

Baptism Request Form
This form contains information for a Baptism and dates of the Preparation Sessions,
and can be obtained by emailing or phoning the parish office.
Baptism Preparation
Parents are required to attend a Baptism Preparation Session evening prior to selecting the date of the Baptism. This meeting is held once per month at 8 pm.
The preparation night includes: welcome of families, catechesis on the meaning of the Sacrament of Baptism, and guided discussion during which any questions about the Baptism can be raised. The Seminar runs for approximately one hour. Mark and Liz Freeman are your hosts for the evening.

Baptism Offering
It is customary for a donation to be made by Baptism families to the parish. An offering envelope is given to families at the preparation night.

Living outside the Parish
If you live outside our parish, you will need to get a letter from your local parish priest (contact his parish office) advising his approval for the baptism to take place in our parish. For further guidance, please call our Parish Office.
For School-aged Children
A program of catechesis is offered prior to their baptism. Please contact the Parish Office to enquire.

For Adults
For adults who wish to be baptised into the Catholic Church, we offer the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) program. Please call the Parish Office 9583 2103 to enquire.
